Modern Country music really began in my opinion in the 1990's, this was thanks to artists such as Shania Twain, Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, Billy Ray Cyrus and the Dixie Chicks. It is characteristed by a pop, rock or world influence alongside familiar country music sounds. In the last decade Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift and Keith Urban have been popular modern country artists.
